In 2015 I decided to make sculptural portraits. Making these portraits allowed me to explore different ways of seeing and refashion my perceptions of events and people. These beautiful and strangely grotesque heroes are family portraits. They talk of both the body in crisis and the body in repair. They speak of specific moments in time but also movement through time. They speak to themselves, to each other and to the viewer. Their stories tell of the never ending contested dialogues of our lives and how our perceptions are shaped by what we see. Some of these portraits are clothed in film that shine light onto their story.
